About Me

I am a PhD student in the Department of Human Centered Design and Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. My current research interests are in information locality, and how proximity to an emerging crisis or breaking news event shapes online user behavior and information sharing.

Prior to commencing my PhD, I served as a program director of a 501(c)(3) non-profit conservation organization where I developed information infrastructures and the group's website and social media channels. I hold an MS in Geographical Information Systems and a BS in Computing. In 2015 I was shortlisted for awards in the Association of Geographical Information (AGI) Student of the Year and Early Career Researcher categories for my work exploring trail user sentiment and social media usage on a national trail.

In my spare time I'm an avid trail runner and once ultra-marathoner—although now I'm mostly a run-commuter.

Below I present a small selection of photos from my Instagram feed. These images reflect my passion for trail running (which is replaced by cross country skiing when the weather permits), and for the mountains. I also have an affinity for the foods of South Korea, a taste which developed during my 3+ memorable years living there.
